For the last two weeks, I have been taking part in a digital anarchy beauty box which is made up of twelve months of make-up, hair, and skincare products. It comes with a video tutorial on how to use the products to achieve different looks for different occasions. As I watched each instructional video, my curiosity became more and more curious about what happens behind the scenes. So when my third box arrived in writing form, I had to take a look at what it entailed. In the last two weeks of the box's twenty-month lifespan, I watched and listened to the video and read all the information that I could get my hands on. The A-Z directory that came with it is categorized into five categories: the cruelty-free list, vegan products, cruelty-free brands, individual products and random events. What we learn in this directory is how products are made (which brands produce them), how products are tested (which suppliers will test them on animals), and what happens with used product (what happens to your used product after you use it). There was a specific reason for each ingredient and it came along with an evidence table where we could see the animal cruelty that was related to the product we were using, as well as other cruelty such as battery cages, gestation crates, and battery tuna farms. The digital anarchy beauty box was not only used to showcase the cruelty-free movement, but also to spread awareness on how our body works. They would add a video of what happens in the body when we eat vegetables and fruit, after we drink water, and at night. By watching these videos, I could see that I needed to make better choices on what I put in my body, which was good for me overall. I am a very visual person and I would really like to see more of this type of media compared to text. The A-Z directory is something that needs to be seen rather than read because there is a lot going on while you are watching it. All the products are categorized so you know what you are getting. When I was watching the videos, I could see that are very precise with what they are saying because they have evidence to back it up. This is important because there could be a lot of people who can be persuaded to do something bad just because of their presentation to it. Also, I could see that they wanted everyone to watch this video to make sure that these animals were not harmed during the making of these products. The company has a mission statement included in both the website and in the book where all their practices are laid out for us to see.
